Clínica Alemana Maintains 17 Agreements with International Healthcare Centers
These agreements enable the exchange of knowledge with leading institutions in the United States, Europe and Latin America
This year marks a two-decade agreement of scientific-academic cooperation signed between Clínica Alemana and Clínica Mayo, which has resulted in a fruitful relationship with an institution currently leading the 2017-2018 annual ranking of Best Hospitals in the U.S. News & World Report.
One year after this first international agreement, a second agreement was signed with Cleveland Clinic, ranking second in this well-known index comparing more than 4,500 medical centers in the United States. Other ranking leaders per specialty include the Hospital for Special Surgery and MD Anderson Cancer Center, with whom Clínica Alemana also maintain agreements.
This is an on-going development and we look forward to further expand this area
To date, Clínica Alemana has already signed 17 alliances with outstanding centers around the world. Dr. Luis Moya, appointed this year as coordinator of the International Agreements Committee – an area previously headed by Dr. Claudio Carranza and Roque Sáenz - explains that maintaining these agreements opens up multiple opportunities to work with world leaders in different specialties. “This is an on-going development and we look forward to further expand this area”.
This exchange of knowledge has allowed promoting new initiatives and incorporating ground-breaking techniques at national level, thus enriching the diagnostic and therapeutic alternatives available in the country.
The most significant activities conducted along with these international centers aim at facilitating the further formation of specialists, developing projects in a collaborative way - for example, transfer of technologies and skills -, carrying out research projects and publications, promoting academic efforts and promoting the stay of visiting professors, among others.
In this manner, in the last five years, 118 Clínica Alemana doctors have conducted observational visits or training stays in some of the centers in the agreements. “Additionally, more than 160 specialists from these foreign institutions have come as guest professors or presenters to courses given here,” adds Dr. Moya.
One of the most outstanding activities developed within the framework of the international agreement with Mayo Clinic is the Internal Medicine Board Review Courses, a unique event at national level, held this year between August 28th and September 2nd, in addition to the Pediatrics Board, organized jointly with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
